Google has announced another update to their algorithm which will affect your page rankings. But unlike previous updates, this time Google is giving everyone fair warning. This update isn’t rolling out until 2021.

Due to the coronavirus, Google has decided to give us all a heads up on the future algorithm update and what it entails… that way you can adjust your website so your traffic doesn’t tank. The new update is called “Page Experience.”

According to Google, “The page experience signal measures aspects of how users perceive the experience of interacting with a web page. Optimizing for these factors makes the web more delightful for users across all web browsers and surfaces, and helps sites evolve towards user expectations on mobile. We believe this will contribute to business success on the web as users grow more engaged and can transact with less friction.

What does this mean to you as a website owner? Basically, Google is trying to quantify what users experience when they visit a webpage. as you have learned from other posts, Google is not just looking at your website, but every single page on your website. the experience that a user has on a certain page is going to affect that page’s ranking, not your website ranking. Things such as button layout and clickability are things that Google is going to look at. they want to insure that top ranked webssites are those that users love the most.

The purpose of this update is to make sure that sites that rank at the top aren’t creating experiences that users hate. The simplest way to think about this update is that user-friendly sites will rank higher than sites that aren’t user friendly. Now is the time to start thinking about the user experience of your website so that you are ready when Google begins rolling out these changes next year.
