WordPress powers millions of ecommerce websites and online stores all over the world. Using one of the ecommerce plugins for WordPress, you can easily add an online store to your WordPress site and sell both digital and physical goods. The current market share for WooCommerce is an impressive 42% of the entire internet. The next closest platform is Shopify at 7% and then Magento at 4%.

As you can see, WooCommerce is many, many times more popular than any of its competitors. WooCommerce was initially released in 2011 and acquired by Automattic, Inc. in 2015.

Automattic Inc. is a web development corporation founded in August 2005 by WordPress creator, Matt Mullenweg. It is most notable for WordPress.com (a free blogging service), as well as its contributions to WordPress (open source blogging software).

For all of the reasons above, WooCommerce has become the dominant player for ecommerce websites. This is the reason why I have developed a complete course on this platform, even though other ecommerce plugins are available for WordPress.
